Three things before your first application
1. Wash your hands, and start with clean skin
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Then make certain the area you are treating is clean and free of makeup, lotion, perfume or anything else. After you apply Cayenne Relief Balm, wash your hands thoroughly again. Use soap and cool water to wash your hands, including under your fingernails. Cayenne Relief Balm is made with capsaicin, and capsaicin transfers easily from your fingers to your eyes, nose, or mouth hours later.
2. Use far less than you think
Half a pea to a full pea size of Cayenne Relief Balm is the whole dose for most areas. The most common mistake new customers make is using too much, and the most common surprise is how long a single 2 oz jar lasts.
3. Cover the sore spot and a little past its edges
Pain rarely stops exactly where you think it does. Work the balm in just beyond the area that hurts, not only the center of it.
The 2-Minute Relief Test
- Take an amount about the size of half a pea.
- Rub it into the area that hurts, and a little past the edges of it.
- Wash your hands. Set a timer for two minutes.
- Pay attention.
Most customers tell us the pain is gone or clearly easing before the two minutes are up. That's what you're paying attention to: the pain, not your skin.
Some people notice a gentle warmth or tingling when applying Cayenne Relief Balm, and some don't experience it at all. Either way, it does not affect the pain relief experienced by most everyone.
What's in it
Nine ingredients. That is the entire list, with nothing else added.
Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Cayenne Pepper, Beeswax, Arrow Root, Frankincense Essential Oil, Clove Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil.
Cayenne pepper is the source of capsaicin, the compound that makes cayenne hot and the reason this balm works the way it does.
If you have a known allergy to any of these, do not use Cayenne Relief Balm. If you are unsure, or if you have sensitive skin, apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm and leave it for a day before using it anywhere else.
Handmade here in the U.S.A., in small batches, in Bassett, Virginia.
Using it safely
None of this is complicated, but a few of these will save you a genuinely unpleasant afternoon.
Keep it away from
- Eyes, nose, mouth, and any other sensitive area
- Broken skin, open cuts, rashes, or sunburn
- Contact lenses. Never handle them after applying without washing first
Do not add heat
This is the one that catches people out. Avoid heating pads, hot showers, hot tubs, saunas, and electric blankets right before or after applying. Heat sharply increases how strongly capsaicin is felt, and a comfortable application can turn into a burning one. Wait until the warmth has fully settled, a couple of hours, before a hot bath or shower.
If it ever feels too intense
Don't reach for water. Capsaicin doesn't dissolve in water, so rinsing tends to spread it around. Instead, wipe the area with a cloth dampened in vegetable oil or whole milk, then wash gently with soap and cool water. The sensation fades on its own.
Test first if you have sensitive skin
Apply a small amount to the inside of your forearm and leave it for a day. If you see redness beyond mild warmth, blistering, or a rash, stop using it.
Check with your doctor
Cayenne Relief Balm is a natural topical product with no known systemic side effects, and it's easy to use alongside anything you've already been prescribed. That said, if you're pregnant or nursing, using it on a child, or managing a condition you're being treated for, ask your doctor first.
When to use it
First thing in the morning
Apply before you start moving, then work through the 5-Minute Morning Routine while it settles in. The Cayenne Relief Balm and these gentle exercises work well together.
Fifteen minutes before you do the thing
Before the garden, the walk, the stairs, the grandchildren. Not after. Before. Customers who plan around the activity report better days than those who wait until it already hurts.
About half an hour before bed
Sleep is the single most common thing our customers say they got back. Give it time to settle before you lie down, and remember the rule about hot showers.
How often?
Reapply as needed. Most customers land on two or three times a day once they find their rhythm. If one application doesn't fully take care of it, you can reapply a few minutes later. You're in control of how much you use and how often.
Troubleshooting
"The pain barely changed."
Usually too little balm spread over too wide an area. Concentrate a pea-sized amount on the spot that actually hurts rather than thinning it across the whole limb.
"I didn't feel any warmth at all."
Completely normal, and not a sign of anything. A good number of our customers, Laura included, never feel any heat and get excellent results. Sensitivity to capsaicin varies enormously. The question isn't "can I feel the balm?" It's "has the pain eased?"
"It felt warm, then the warmth faded."
Also normal. The warmth isn't the relief. It comes and goes on its own schedule. Reapply whenever you'd like to.
"It's too intense."
Vegetable oil or whole milk on a cloth, then soap and cool water. Not plain water on its own. Use half as much next time.
"The balm has gone soft."
It's a natural balm with no synthetic stabilizers, so it softens in a hot car or a sunny window. It still works. Store it somewhere cool and dark and it will firm up.
Storing it
Cool, dark, lid on. Away from direct sunlight and away from heat. Kept that way, a jar holds its quality for about a year.
The questions people actually ask
Does it really work for pain this serious, even when prescriptions and steroid shots haven't?
We get it. That's a fair question. Over the last two years, hundreds of our customers have told us Cayenne Relief Balm gave them the relief they'd been looking for. Try the 2-Minute Relief Test. Most people feel a difference within minutes.
It's just cayenne pepper. How is this different from Icy Hot or Tiger Balm?
This isn't a generic drugstore rub. It's a purpose-formulated capsaicin-based balm, and customers who'd already tried Icy Hot and Tiger Balm tell us Cayenne Relief Balm is what finally worked for them.
I've tried everything already. Why would this be any different?
Because you won't need to wait weeks to find out. Relief typically starts in minutes, not weeks, so instead of another long, expensive trial-and-error cycle, you'll know almost right away if it's working for you. And it's not a one-shot deal. If the first application doesn't fully take care of it, you can reapply a few minutes later. You're in control of how much you use and how often.
My pain is severe. Is it too far gone for this to help?
We hear this a lot, and often the answer is no. We have real customers who found real relief, including one who told us, "I can finally enjoy gardening again."
I don't trust "natural" products. I need something that actually works.
Totally understandable. Our repeat customers report real, noticeable relief. It's natural, but it's not weak.
How much should I use, and how often?
Apply enough to cover the area, plus the surrounding area. A little goes a long way, so most people start with a half pea to a full pea sized amount. Depending on how large the area is, you may need a little more. Reapply as needed. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying and keep it away from your eyes. Every order comes with a Quick Start Card to walk you through it.
What if I have to keep buying it and it gets expensive?
A little goes a long way. For most customers it replaces the ongoing cost of other things they'd tried that didn't work, so it often costs less in the long run.
I'm not sure my doctor would be okay with it.
Cayenne Relief Balm is a natural, topical product with no known systemic side effects. It's easy to use alongside anything your doctor has already prescribed. By all means, check with your doctor.
What if it doesn't work for me?
Use it for 30 days. If you're not satisfied for any reason, we'll refund you. That's our 30-day unconditional money-back guarantee, and it doesn't depend on your reason.
Does it work for everyone?
As with any topical product, individual results can vary, and Cayenne Relief Balm may not work exactly the same way for everyone. What we can tell you is that the vast majority of our customers over the past two years have reported real, noticeable relief, and every order is backed by our 30-day unconditional guarantee, so there's no risk in trying it for yourself.
